Method
How a report is made.
A LEMANS LABS report is a scored, sourced analysis of what the public record says about a company or a founder: public sources only, every finding cited, six dimensions scored against a published rubric, delivered in minutes. This page sets out exactly how - and what the method refuses to do.
01The pipeline
Six steps, none of them discretionary.
The same method runs for every subject, whoever they are. Nothing below is a best effort or an aspiration: each step is enforced by the system that produces the report, and several are commitments our published legal notices make in writing.
The subject is fixed
A company is identified by its name and website; a person by their name and LinkedIn profile, plus up to four more links they choose - their own site, GitHub, publications, coverage. Identity is pinned to profiles rather than names, because names collide and profiles do not.
The public record is collected
The pipeline runs up to fourteen distinct search queries for a company and twelve for a person, reads up to forty pages, and opens every link the buyer named. Collection respects robots.txt: our fetcher identifies itself as LeMansLabsBot and does not read pages whose publisher has asked not to be read - a refused page is recorded as unread, never silently skipped.
Every source is tiered before it is used
Primary sources - the subject speaking, or an official register - and editorial press may be quoted. Aggregators and unread pages are counted but never quoted. User-content platforms such as Reddit or review forums are excluded at retrieval: never fetched, never stored, never cited. A finding without a source it can name does not survive review.
Five AI assistants are asked directly
ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and Perplexity are each asked what they know about the subject, and their answers are recorded verbatim as evidence. Four answer from model memory and one from live web search, so the report shows both what the models remember and what a search-grounded assistant finds today.
Evidence is scored against a published rubric
Six dimensions, each 0-100, each defined in public. The headline score is their plain mean - no weighting, no curve, no discretion. The rubric is on this site in full, so any reader can re-derive the arithmetic from the findings.
The report is delivered, or the order is refunded
A company report must draw on at least forty distinct source domains and a founder report on at least twenty-five. Below the floor, the report is not delivered and the order is refunded automatically - a thin record produces a refund, not a padded document.
02Limits
What the method refuses to do.
A method is defined as much by what it declines as by what it performs. These four limits are stated in our legal notices as commitments, not caveats.
Outside-in, by design
A report reads what the public record says - it has no access to private accounts, paywalled archives, internal metrics or anything behind a login. That is the product: the view your market, your buyers and the AI assistants actually have of you.
A dated record
Assessment sections weigh sources from the last twenty-four months; older or undated material is kept as background rather than treated as current. Each report states when it was produced, and the record it describes is the record as of that date.
Findings carry confidence
Where the record is thin or sources disagree, the report says so instead of guessing. Every finding names its evidence, and a claim that cannot be traced to a source is removed before delivery.
Not a regulated screen
A report is not a consumer report, a background check or a credit reference, and must not be used to decide about anyone's employment, credit, housing or insurance. Buyers confirm this before paying, and the bar binds us as well as them.
03Questions
The method, asked directly.
What sources does a LEMANS LABS report read?
Public sources only: the subject's website and declared links, search results, press and editorial coverage, official registers, professional profiles, and direct answers from five AI assistants. User-content platforms are excluded at retrieval, and pages whose publishers refuse crawling via robots.txt are recorded as unread rather than read anyway.
How current is the information in a report?
Each report is produced on demand, in minutes, from a live read of the record. Assessment sections weigh sources from the last twenty-four months; older and undated material is kept as background. The report states its own production date.
What happens if the public record is too thin?
The report is not delivered and the order is refunded automatically. A company report requires at least forty distinct source domains and a founder report at least twenty-five - below that floor there is not enough evidence to score honestly.
How do I dispute or correct something in a report?
Write to [email protected] with the finding and the evidence. The Report Accuracy notice on this site sets out the correction process, and a person a report is about has statutory rights to rectification that the Report Subjects notice explains.
